Three means you are watching the clock from the first venue and rushing the bit everyone was looking forward to. Two, with a proper sit-down between them, is the shape that consistently works.
Put the competitive thing first. Axe throwing, Topgolf and lawn bowls all work far better before anyone has had a drink, for reasons that should not need spelling out. Run the active thing while the group is fresh, then let it wind down. Doing it in reverse is how you end up with an incident report.
