How every single tour runs

Your group. Your bus. Your day.

Every tour on this page is private. Per head is how we price the day, never how we seat it. You are only ever on the bus with the people you booked with, and the whole vehicle is yours from pickup to drop off.

Your own vehicle

The coach is booked to your name and carries your group only, whether that is a luxury 6 seater or a 57 seat coach. We do not sell seats on it to anyone else.

Your own guide and driver

One guide with your group all day, who knows your names, your run sheet and your occasion. Your playlist through the coach, start to finish.

Your own itinerary

You choose the venues, the order and the timings during booking. Every tour below is a starting point that we tailor around your group, then confirm on your run sheet.

Your own front door

Collected from one address of your choosing and returned to it. Your day starts where your group already is, at the time that suits you.

Private charter for your group alone, every tour, every group size, every date. That is the only way we run. More on what makes a private Hunter Valley wine tour work.

What we are actually best at

The Hunter Valley's large group specialists.

The whole coach is yours, and it stays yours from four guests all the way to two hundred. Big groups are the work we do most, and the day is built around your numbers.

Two ways to do the Hunter.

Both are private and both are yours alone. The only question is whether you want the day planned for you or the coach on its own.

A planned private tour

We book the wineries, the tastings and the food, then drive you between them on your own coach. You pick a tour below, we tailor it to your group, and we send a run sheet once your deposit lands.

What it costs

Your group size sets your price.

Every tour is priced per head in bands. The more people you bring, the less each person pays. Every figure here is the real per head price, and it always buys a private tour for your group alone, never a seat on a shared one.

Tap your group size and we will show you what each tour costs per person.

Prices above are the lowest full day and half day per head rates at each band. Individual tours price differently and each tour's own bands are shown on its card below. Where a 15, 16, 17, 18 or 19 guest search lands, we usually send the 27 seater rather than the 14, because the extra room is worth more than the seat count on a six hour day. Groups of 42 to 45 usually still take the 41 seater, since final numbers almost always come down between booking and the day. Above 57 we run multiple vehicles on one run sheet. Saturdays and public holidays price higher. Your exact figure is confirmed on your quote.

Seasonal guide

Best time to visit the Hunter.

We run every day of the year. Each season gives you a different valley.

Spring

September to November

New green growth on the vines and the rose gardens in full bloom. Perfect weather for cellar door hopping and outdoor lunches.

Summer

December to February

Vineyard concert season at Hope Estate and Bimbadgen. Warm evenings, long lunches and the vines at their lushest.

Autumn

March to May

Harvest time. Golden vines, mild temperatures and the most atmospheric tasting rooms of the year. A favourite for wine lovers.

Winter

June to August

Cosy cellar doors, open fires and our best group rates of the year. Quieter roads and attentive staff, with the valley at its most relaxed.

Food, in plain terms

What is included, and what lunch costs.

Every tour includes food. Two tours include a full sit down lunch in the head price, the rest include a platter and let you add lunch if you want it. Nothing is assumed.

Where we take people

Cellar doors we love.

Your itinerary is built with you, so this is a menu rather than a fixed route. These are the venues our guides know best and where we book seated tastings most often.

Our partner cellar doors

  • Emma's Cottage, Pokolbin. Relaxed and charming, a favourite for hens and milestone birthdays.
  • River Flats Estate, a regular on our itineraries.
  • Horner Wines, small and personal, one we book often.
  • Moorebank Vineyard, another we return to again and again.

Door to door service

Your door. You choose.

Same legendary tour, same guides, same luxury buses, same price, wherever we collect you. There is no surcharge for your suburb, your hotel, your Airbnb or your office. You pick the address and we come to it.

Coming up to the Valley

Sydney CBD and all suburbs. Hunter Valley wine tours from Sydney are our most popular run, a 2 to 2.5 hour drive to the Valley. Any suburb, any street, door to door and included in the price. We also run Sydney bus charters if you need the coach on its own.
Central Coast. About 1.5 hours from Gosford or Erina. Groups booking Hunter Valley wine tours from the Central Coast get the same price and the same experience as every other origin. See also Central Coast bus hire and charter.
Newcastle and Maitland. About 45 minutes to Pokolbin. Perfect for groups who want a local Hunter Valley day, and it makes a half day wine tour genuinely a half day.
Corporate teams and work sites. Office, warehouse or event venue. If your team is gathering somewhere, that is where the bus arrives, at the same price as any other pickup. See corporate bus hire.

Already in the Valley

Staying in Pokolbin, Broke Fordwich, Cessnock or Lovedale? We collect from your accommodation directly. No extra cost and no separate arrangement needed, including Cypress Lakes and group houses.
Pokolbin is the heart of it and where most of our winery tours run. Broke Fordwich sits about thirty minutes west, smaller and quieter, and is where our Broke Fordwich Legends tour spends the day.
Anywhere else in NSW. The per head price covers one pickup location, wherever it is. Multiple pickups can be arranged and are quoted on your proposal. See NSW bus hire and charter.
The wine itself. The Hunter is Australia's oldest wine region and is best known for Semillon, Shiraz and Chardonnay. Our ultimate Hunter Valley wineries list runs through who does what best.

Same legendary tour. Same guides. Same buses. You just pick the spot.

A typical Hunter Valley day

What the day actually looks like.

Every Hunter Valley wine tour is custom curated by our local team. Here is how a standard all inclusive day runs.

  1. 8:00 to 9:30 am

    Pickup from wherever suits you

We collect your group door to door, from home, your hotel, the office, Sydney, the Central Coast, Newcastle or anywhere in the Valley. Settle in, the drive is part of the fun.

  2. 10:30 am

    First cellar door

A premium seated tasting, pre booked for your group. No queues, no standing at a bar, no separate entry fee.

  3. 11:45 am

    Second cellar door

Another seated tasting, often a boutique, family run estate that the big tour buses never reach.

  4. 1:00 pm

    Lunch at a dedicated venue

A proper sit down lunch at a Hunter Valley restaurant or winery kitchen. Included on some packages and added on others, and your guide books the right spot for your group. See exactly which tours include it and what adding it costs.

  5. 2:30 pm

    Distillery or brewery

A spirit tasting at a local distillery, or a craft beer flight at a brewery, to mix up the day. Most of our days include one.

  6. 3:30 pm

Final cellar door, platter on the bus

One last seated tasting, then the gourmet cheese and produce platter comes out for the ride home.

  7. 5:00 pm

    Home, door to door

Dropped back exactly where we collected you: your home, your hotel, the office, Sydney, the Central Coast, Newcastle, Maitland or your Hunter Valley accommodation. Always your address, rather than one central drop off point. Wine in the boot optional, smiles guaranteed.

This is just an example. Every Urban Legends day is uniquely tailored to your group, the package you book and the preferences you give us on the booking form: favourite grape varieties, must see wineries, a distillery stop, a long lunch, dietary needs. Tell us what you are after and we build the day around it. For a worked example, read our Hunter Valley wine tour itinerary.

Good questions

Frequently asked questions.

You price per person, so will we be sharing the bus with another group?

No. Every tour on this page is a private charter for your group alone. Per head is simply how we work out the price, because the cost of the coach, the driver and the day is spread across your numbers. It has nothing to do with who is on board. The vehicle is booked to your name, we never sell seats on it, and the only people travelling with you are the people you booked with.

Can we choose the wineries and the timings ourselves?

Yes, and most groups do. Each tour below is a starting point rather than a fixed departure. The schedule, the venues, the order and the stops are all customisable during booking, and the run sheet we send after your deposit is the version we actually drive.

How big a group can you actually take?

Up to 200 on one booking. A single coach seats up to 57, and above that we run multiple vehicles on one run sheet so the whole group still arrives together and stays together. Large groups are the work we do most.

Can you pick us up from Sydney?

Yes. Pickup and drop off from one location anywhere in NSW is included in the per head price, which covers Sydney, Newcastle, the Central Coast and everywhere between. Tell us the address on your enquiry and we will build the timing around it.

What is the smallest group you will take?

Four. Groups of 4 to 6 travel in a luxury 6 seater with leather interior. From 7 guests up you are in a 14, 27, 41 or 57 seat coach depending on numbers.

Why is the per person price lower for bigger groups?

Because the coach, the driver and the day cost close to the same whether 8 people or 40 people are on board. Bringing more people spreads that across more heads. A group of 8 on the Broke Fordwich tour pays $220 each, a group of 30 pays $149 each.

Will the wineries fit our whole group?

Yes, because we choose them for that. We book the cellar doors with the room and the seating for your numbers, and the tastings are reserved and paid before you arrive rather than squeezed in on the day.

How do we secure a date?

A $200 deposit secures the booking and you get instant confirmation when you book online. The deposit comes off your final bill. Final numbers and the balance are due 2 weeks before your tour.

Can we change the wineries?

Yes. The schedule, the venues and the stops are customisable throughout the booking process. If you have a cellar door you want on the list, name it and we will build it in where we can.

Is lunch included, and what does it cost to add?

Two tours include a sit down lunch in the head price: Hunter Valley Indulgence, where a brewery or winery lunch is included to the value of $35 per person, and the Custom Two Night Weekend. Every other full day tour includes a platter, and the Broke Fordwich platter is substantial enough that we describe it as a light lunch. If you want a proper lunch on top, the wood fired feast and the brewery pub lunch are both $35 per person, payable 2 weeks before your tour with your final balance. Half day tours run four hours and do not include a sit down lunch.

Can we decide about lunch on the day rather than committing now?

Yes, for several options. Harrigan's Hunter Valley lets everyone order their own meal and pay for it there, a cocktail bar stop works the same way, and premium restaurant set menus at venues such as Esca Bimbadgen are $50 to $80 per person paid to the venue directly on the day. None of those are charged by us in advance, so your group can decide late and anyone who would rather skip it simply does not pay. The only lunches we need locked in early are the $35 per person wood fired feast and brewery pub lunch, because the venue needs numbers.

Do you cater for dietary requirements?

Yes. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options are available at every food stop on every tour, platters included. Tell us the numbers when you confirm final passenger numbers 2 weeks before your tour and we pass them to each venue.

Do Saturdays cost more?

Saturdays and public holidays price higher than the rates shown here. Your exact figure is confirmed on your quote before you pay anything.

What is the difference between your wine tour packages and a private charter?

A package is priced per head and includes the cellar doors, the seated tastings, every tasting fee and the food, all booked before you arrive. A private charter is priced per vehicle per day and is transport only, for groups who have already arranged their own venues. Both give you the whole coach to your group.

Is this a party bus?

It is your own private coach with your own playlist, so the atmosphere is yours to set, and plenty of hens, bucks and birthday groups book exactly that way. Think seated luxury touring coach with the music up and your whole group together. For everyone's safety we keep the drinking to the venues rather than the road.

Can you cater for guests with limited mobility?

Tell us before you book and we will tell you honestly what we can do. Our coaches are standard touring coaches with entry steps rather than low floor vehicles, and cellar doors vary a lot in how accessible they are. For many groups we can choose venues and a vehicle that work well, and where we cannot we will say so rather than let you find out on the day.

What about guests who are not drinking?

They are welcome and they still get the day. Non alcoholic options are available on request, the food is included either way, and the per head price is the same because it covers the coach, the guide and the venues as much as the wine.

What wine is the Hunter Valley known for?

Semillon above all, which the Hunter is famous for worldwide, plus Shiraz and Chardonnay. It is Australia's oldest wine region. Your guide will point out what each cellar door does best as you go.
