Three rules, learned the hard way from the driver's seat.
Two activities is the sweet spot, not three. One thing feels thin and everyone is back at their desk by two. Three means you are watching the clock from the first venue and rushing the bit everyone was looking forward to. Two, with a proper sit-down between them, is the shape that consistently works.
Put the competitive thing first. Axe throwing, Topgolf and lawn bowls all work far better before anyone has had a drink, for reasons that should not need spelling out.
