Things to build a Byron hens day around
Byron works best when you pick one thing from the water, one from the hinterland and one long lunch, then stop. The temptation is to fit in everything, and the drive times between the beach and the hinterland are longer than the map suggests.

The classic Byron hens morning, and it works because nobody has to be good at it. Group lessons run on the main beach, most schools take large bookings, and everyone is back on dry land in time for a long lunch. Book it yourself and give us the finish time.

The hens day out
Slow start, plenty of daylight, nothing that feels like a schedule. This is the one for a group that wants to be together in nice places, not ticking off venues.

The one thing to get right on either day: if your group is coming from the Gold Coast or Brisbane, check the clocks before you book anything. Byron Bay is in New South Wales and observes daylight saving. The Gold Coast and Brisbane are in Queensland and do not. From early October to early April, Byron is one hour ahead, so an 11am booking in Byron is a 10am departure in Queensland time. This catches out more groups than anything else up here.
Byron sits about an hour south of the Gold Coast and roughly two and a half hours south of Brisbane, so a Byron day from Queensland is a long one rather than an impossible one. If Byron is the destination, it is usually worth staying the night. See a day out, or a weekend away below.
Either shape can be mixed. Plenty of groups do the beach in the morning and one distillery in the afternoon, and that is a perfectly good third option. Gold Coast hens party ideas
The strip from Southport down to Coolangatta packs more into a short drive than anywhere else on this coast, and the hinterland behind it is half an hour away when you want the day to slow down.
Beaches, breweries, and a winery day up the mountain
The Gold Coast rewards groups who commit to one of two versions: the coastal crawl, or the hinterland day. Trying to do both in one afternoon is the most common way to spend the day in traffic on the M1.
The coastal version runs south along the beach suburbs. Burleigh Brewing and Black Hops at Burleigh Heads, Balter at Currumbin, Lost Palms and Precinct Brewing around Miami and Mermaid Beach. They sit close enough that you can do three properly in an afternoon with a swim in between.
The hinterland version goes up to Tamborine Mountain, about forty five minutes inland, where Witches Falls Winery, Cauldron Distillery and Tamborine Mountain Distillery are close enough together to walk between some of them. Four inner-city beer precincts, rooftops with a river view, and short enough hops between them that a private bus turns four separate outings into one day.
Precinct hopping, rooftops and the Story Bridge
Brisbane's craft scene is not in one place, which is exactly why it suits a private bus. The good stuff sits in four pockets, none of them walkable from each other, and all of them a short drive apart.
Newstead and Teneriffe is the heart of it, with Newstead Brewing, Green Beacon, Range Brewing and Aether Brewing close together. Howard Smith Wharves is where you go for Felons, tucked in under the Story Bridge with the river right there, and it is the stop everyone ends up photographing. West End has Catchment and Slipstream and a very different, scruffier feel. Fortitude Valley has All Inn Brewing and the rooftops, including Valley Hops, which is the pick if you want the afternoon to end somewhere high up with a view.
Link two or three of those precincts, put lunch in the middle, and add an activity if the group wants one. It is the easiest of the three regions to plan because nothing is more than about twenty minutes from anything else, and the whole day can happen without leaving the city.

Classy and low-key, or a big one
Worth settling early, because it changes the venues, the timing and the size of the vehicle. Most of the disappointment we see comes from a group that never agreed which of these two it was having.
The classy version
Seated tastings rather than crawls. A distillery with a guide, a long lunch somewhere with a view, a winery day up Tamborine Mountain, or markets and a hinterland village.
These days run shorter, usually five or six hours, and they work best with a smaller vehicle and a tighter schedule. Book the lunch first and build everything else around it, because the good tables for a group of twenty go early.
The big one
Three or four venues, an activity in the middle, music on the bus between stops and a drop-off that is not the accommodation. The Gold Coast strip and the Brisbane precincts both handle this well.
Give it eight hours and be realistic about the last stop. The most common mistake is booking a fourth venue nobody makes it to. We would rather build a day with three good stops and room to breathe.
A day out, or a weekend away
Byron over-indexes on weekends and there is a good reason for it. The other two are genuinely doable in a day.
Byron as a weekend is the version worth arguing for. The drive from Brisbane is around two and a half hours each way, so a day trip spends five hours of daylight on the motorway to buy maybe six hours in Byron. Stay Friday to Sunday and the same trip becomes a beach morning, a hinterland afternoon, a proper dinner and a slow breakfast, with the vehicle only booked for the days you actually want it.
The Gold Coast and Brisbane work as single days, and most of the groups we carry treat them that way. If people are flying in for the weekend, the pattern that works is one full charter day and one quiet day, rather than trying to fill both.

What actually moves the cost
Charters are priced per vehicle for the day, not per head. That means a bigger group usually costs less per person, and it means the honest answer to "how much is it" depends on five things rather than one.
How many of you there are
Headcount sets the vehicle, and the vehicle sets the base rate. The jump between sizes is where the cost steps, so eighteen people and twenty two people can be a different number even though it feels like the same group.
How long you need it
Half day and full day are priced differently, and a full day gives you the vehicle for the whole thing rather than in pieces. Most hens days land on a full day once you count the getting-ready and the drop-off.
Which day of the week
Saturdays and Sundays carry a surcharge, which is why a Friday hens day is often noticeably better value. Public holidays are higher again. If your date is flexible, ask us for both.
How far the vehicle travels
Not just your route. Distance is measured from where the vehicle comes from, so a job that stays local prices differently to one that runs between regions.
The Byron-specific one, stated plainly: we run the Northern Rivers from our Gold Coast depot, so every Byron and Northern Rivers charter carries a positioning charge of $200 per vehicle per leg. On a return day that is $400. We quote it up front rather than burying it, because it is the single thing that makes a Byron day price differently to a Gold Coast one, and you should be able to see it.
Tolls and fuel are already in the quote, including the M1, Gateway and Logan on the Coast and Legacy Way and Airport Link in Brisbane. Tasting fees, entry costs and lunch are at the group's own expense, since you book those directly. Water is available on request at $50 per day per vehicle.

How we actually run Byron, the Coast and Brisbane
The things that go wrong up here are rarely the things people worry about. Four that come up again and again, and what to do about each.
Queensland does not do daylight saving. New South Wales does.
Byron Bay is in New South Wales. The Gold Coast and Brisbane are in Queensland. From early October to early April, Byron runs one hour ahead of both. Every year this catches out groups who book a Byron tasting for 11am from a Gold Coast hotel and work backwards using the wrong clock.
Getting the time change wrong is one of the most common ways a cross-border day comes apart, because it does not fail gently. You do not arrive slightly late, you arrive an hour late and the venue has given your table away. When you send us your bookings, tell us which state's time you wrote them in and we will sanity check the whole runsheet against it.
Three airports serve this area, and people pick the wrong one
Brisbane (BNE), Gold Coast at Coolangatta (OOL) and Ballina Byron (BNK). Guests booking their own flights routinely land at the one that suited the fare rather than the one near the group, and then need an hour or more of transfer at exactly the wrong moment.
If the weekend is in Byron, Ballina is the closest by a long way and Gold Coast is the usual fallback. If it is a Gold Coast weekend, Coolangatta is right there. Send the group a note about which airport before anyone books, not after. It is a two-line message that saves a real amount of money and time.
Travelling when you did not need to
The most common thing we quietly fix when we build a runsheet. A group books venues in an order that looks fine on a map and ends up crossing back over its own path two or three times, which can add well over an hour of sitting on the bus across a day.
You do not need to solve this yourself. Send us the venues in any order and we will tell you if the sequence is costing you time, before anything is locked in. Changing the order of two bookings is easy in advance and impossible on the day.
You choose the pickup point, we choose the vehicle
There is no depot you have to meet at and no fixed pickup location up here. Hotel, Airbnb, the cafe where you are having breakfast: you nominate the address for pickup and drop-off, and it can be a different one at each end.
Vehicle size follows the headcount. We will not put a group into something that only just fits, because a bus that is technically big enough and actually cramped is the thing people remember about the day. Give us your final number as early as you can and tell us if it is likely to move.

If the group is coming from Brisbane, make it a weekend. A day trip spends around five hours on the motorway to buy six hours in Byron. From the Gold Coast a single day works. Either way, Byron is the one region here that rewards staying the night.
Which airport should our guests fly into?
Three airports serve this area and picking the wrong one is a common and expensive mistake. Ballina Byron is closest for a Byron weekend, Gold Coast at Coolangatta serves the Coast and is the usual Byron fallback, and Brisbane suits a Brisbane weekend. Tell guests before they book flights.
Does the time difference between Byron and Queensland matter?

Do you book the venues for us?
On a private charter you book the breweries, tastings, lunch and activities directly, which keeps you in control and means you pay venue prices. Send us the confirmed times and we build the runsheet around them. If you would rather everything included, our per-head packages do that instead.
Where can you pick us up from?
Anywhere you nominate. There is no depot to gather at and no fixed meeting point. Hotel, Airbnb, the cafe where you are having breakfast, and the drop-off can be a different address entirely. Just give us the pickup point when you book and tell us if it changes.
