Are you ready to hit the slopes and experience the thrill of skiing or snowboarding? Whether you're looking to learn to ski or master the basics of snowboarding, we've got you covered. Starting out can be a bit intimidating, but with the right guidance and tips, you'll be gliding down the slopes at Perisher and Thredbo in no time. This guide will help you get started with confidence and have fun along the way. Let’s dive in!

Why Perisher and Thredbo are Perfect for Beginners

Perisher and Thredbo are two of Australia’s premier ski resorts, renowned for their excellent facilities, varied terrains, and excellent ski schools. Both resorts offer a welcoming environment for beginners, with gentle slopes, professional instructors, and all the amenities you need to get started.

Embrace the Right Gear

Before hitting the slopes, having the right gear is essential. As a beginner, consider renting your ski or snowboarding equipment from a reputable rental shop. We have secured a great deal with Rhythm Snowsports in Cooma to ensure you have the best gear. The basic gear includes skis or a snowboard, boots, bindings, a helmet, and appropriate clothing to keep you warm and dry. Investing in quality gear ensures a safer and more enjoyable experience.

Take a Lesson from the Pros

Enrolling in a skiing or snowboarding lesson is perhaps the most crucial step for beginners. Professional instructors at Perisher and Thredbo are trained to teach the fundamental techniques, safety practices, and etiquette required for skiing and snowboarding. They will help you build a solid foundation, making your learning curve smoother and faster.

Get Familiar with the Basics

Skiing and snowboarding may look effortless when professionals do it, but every expert was once a beginner. Start with the basics, such as understanding how to attach and detach your boots from the equipment, control your speed, and stop. Practising on gentle slopes will boost your confidence and allow you to get accustomed to the feeling of being on the skis or board.

Master Your Stance

Stance plays a crucial role in skiing and snowboarding. For snowboarding, a regular stance involves having your left foot leading while your right foot remains behind, whereas a goofy stance is when your right foot leads. Find your comfortable stance by standing naturally and having someone gently push you from behind. Whichever foot you naturally put forward to catch yourself is your leading foot. For skiing, ensure your feet are parallel and shoulder-width apart to maintain balance and control.

Perfect Your Balance

Maintaining balance on skis or a snowboard is vital. Practice shifting your weight from toe to heel (for snowboarding) or from one ski to the other (for skiing) while keeping your knees slightly bent. This allows for better control and manoeuvrability on the slopes. Keeping your arms out for balance, similar to a tightrope walker, will also help.

Mastering the Art of Turning

Once you’ve got the hang of balancing, it’s time to learn how to turn. For snowboarding, start with basic turns known as “heel-side” and “toe-side” turns. For skiing, learn the snowplough or wedge turn to control your speed and direction. With practice, you’ll develop smooth and fluid turns.

Navigating the Slopes

Understanding the symbols and signs on the slopes is essential for your safety and the safety of others. Green circles indicate beginner slopes, blue squares are for intermediate runs, black diamonds represent advanced runs and double black diamonds are for experts. Stick to the appropriate level until you’re confident in your abilities.

Be Safe on the Slopes

Skiing and snowboarding are exhilarating, but safety should always be a priority. Always wear a helmet, follow the rules and guidelines of the resort, and be mindful of other skiers and snowboarders around you. Stay within your skill level and avoid attempting advanced slopes before you’re ready.

WHY WE ADORE THE SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS WINE REGION!

Before we dive into our ultimate list of Southern Highlands wineries, let's address some of our most asked questions about this legendary wine destination.

“Southern Highlands has been one of the fastest developing wine regions in Australia since 2000, if not the fastest”

— James Halliday, Wine Essentials

What makes the Southern Highlands Wine so special?

The Southern Highlands is renowned for its cool climate grape growing and winemaking, where vines ripen at lower temperatures compared to most Australian wine regions, resulting in slower and more even fruit ripening. This unique climate yields balanced, aromatic fruit, laying the foundation for delicate and fruity wines. Additionally, cool climate wines boast higher natural acidity in grapes, eliminating the need for supplementation that is often found in non-cool climate wines. This elevated acidity, influenced by the temperature, ensures wines from the Southern Highlands has a unique balance, crispness, and superior aging ability, distinguishing them with more lengthy palates.

What wines should I taste in the Southern Highlands?

The Southern Highlands area is known for it’s cool-climate wines like Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Riesling. But the region also allows you to taste great Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc. Our wine tours provide an balanced offering between all of our favourite wines, allowing you to leave with an in-depth tasting experience of the region.

How can you explore the Southern Highlands Wineries?

Whether you opt for a self-guided tour with a designated driver or prefer the convenience of our guided Southern Highlands Wine Tours! Our comfortable, air-conditioned luxury vehicles ensure seamless transportation between wineries, guaranteeing a stress-free and enjoyable experience.

Do I have to pay for wine tastings in the Southern Highlands?

Many wineries in the Southern Highlands do charge tasting fees, expect between $5 and $15 for a single tasting that will allow you taste around 5-6 wines. Alternatively, our Southern Highlands Wine Tours include these fees in the tour price. This allows you to fully immerse yourself in the tasting experience without any additional costs.

When is the best time of year for wine tours?

The Southern Highlands is a fantastic destination year-round, with each season offering its own unique experience. Whether it's the warmth of spring and summer, the vibrant colors of autumn, or the cozy ambiance of winter, every season promises a delightful experience amidst the region's stunning landscapes and exceptional wines.

How many wineries are in the Southern Highlands?

The Southern Highlands is home to over 60 wineries and cellar doors, offering a diverse range of experiences for wine lovers. From family-owned boutique wineries to renowned estates, you'll find a world of wine just waiting to be explored. Our tours handpick 3-4 of the best wineries in the region, ensuring a memorable and enjoyable experience for all.

How many wineries are there in Bowral?

Team Building Activities Brisbane 2026: 5 Ideas and the Run Sheet

Queensland’s sun-drenched capital is the go-to destination for corporates and small businesses looking to inject a new lease on life into their teams. Taking your team on a fun and memorable team building activity in Brisbane is known to lead to increased creativity, problem-solving skills, and overall better team cohesion. What’s not to love! Let's explore the city's best offerings in team building activities in Brisbane.

Team Building · Brisbane

Most guides to team building activities in Brisbane give you a list and leave you with the hard part. The list is the easy bit. The hard bit is the shape of the day: which two things pair without dragging, how long the gap between them really is once you account for parking in Newstead on a Friday, and how twenty-six people get from the office to the first venue without three of them getting lost and one driving home on two beers.

We run the coaches that hold Brisbane team days together, which means we have watched a lot of them work and a fair few fall apart. Here are five activities worth booking, and more usefully, how to string them into a day that actually runs.

Work team together at a Brisbane team building activity, out of the office for the day

How to shape a Brisbane team building day

Three rules, learned the hard way from the driver's seat.

Two activities is the sweet spot, not three. One thing feels thin and everyone is back at their desk by two. Three means you are watching the clock from the first venue and rushing the bit everyone was looking forward to. Two, with a proper sit-down between them, is the shape that consistently works.

Put the competitive thing first. Axe throwing, Topgolf and lawn bowls all work far better before anyone has had a drink, for reasons that should not need spelling out. Run the active thing while the group is fresh, then let it wind down. Doing it in reverse is how you end up with an incident report.

Decide the finish before you book the start. The single most common Brisbane mistake is a beautifully planned day that ends with twenty-eight people standing on a footpath in Newstead trying to split six rideshares at 6pm. Work out how the day ends first, then build backwards.

Five team building activities in Brisbane

1. Topgolf

The reliable one. Climate-controlled bays, a scoring system that carries people who have never held a club, and enough space for the group to rotate rather than queue. It is the pick when the team's abilities are all over the place, because nobody is exposed and nobody is bored. Best for: mixed groups, wide age range, first-time team days. Watch for: bay numbers cap your group size, so book the headcount early rather than optimistically.

2. Lawn bowls

Underrated, and the most sociable option on this list. The pace is slow enough that people actually talk, which is the entire point of the exercise and the thing most team days forget. Brisbane's weather does most of the work. Best for: teams who do not know each other yet, and anyone who wants conversation rather than adrenaline. Watch for: it is outdoors, so have a wet-weather answer ready before December.

3. Axe throwing

The one people are nervous about and then will not shut up about. Sessions are short, coached, and the leaderboard format means it is over before it gets stale. It also produces the photos that end up on the company channel. Best for: groups that need shaking out of a rut, and teams who have done the standard offsite three years running. Watch for: venues run tight session windows, so it slots better as the first activity than as the loose end of the day.

4. A Brisbane brewery tour

This is the one we actually run, so rather than repeat ourselves: Brisbane's brewery scene across Newstead, Teneriffe and West End is dense enough that two or three venues in an afternoon is comfortable, the brewers themselves do the talking, and the whole thing works as either the back half of a bigger day or the entire day on its own. Everything worth knowing, including which suburbs pair, group sizes and indicative pricing, is on our Brisbane brewery tours page. Best for: almost any group, which is why it is the default second half.

Want to take it to the water? A four-hour private yacht hire can be added to the Brisbane or Gold Coast brewery day, breweries in the afternoon, harbour in the evening. It is priced on enquiry rather than a fixed rate, so mention it when you get in touch and we will confirm the number against your date and headcount.

5. Take the day out of the city

The move most Brisbane teams have not considered: leave. An hour south and the day stops feeling like an extended lunch break and starts feeling like a proper trip. Gold Coast brewery tours and Byron Bay brewery tours both run as a Brisbane day out with the coach doing the distance while everyone talks. Best for: annual offsites, milestone days, and teams who have exhausted the inner-city options. Watch for: it is a longer day, so set expectations on the finish time up front.

What pairs with what

Sequencing, in the order that works. Every one of these is a half day plus a half day, not a marathon.

Start with Finish with Why it works
Axe throwing Two breweries Short sharp session, then the day opens out. The most-booked shape.
Topgolf One brewery, long lunch Topgolf runs long, so leave only one stop after it.
Lawn bowls Two breweries Both relaxed. The pick when the goal is conversation, not competition.
Leave the city Gold Coast or Byron The whole day is the activity. No second booking needed.

Moving the group

Brisbane work team travelling between team building venues together on a private coach

This is the part that decides whether the day feels organised or improvised, and it is the part most plans leave until last.

Self-driving splits the group into cars, which quietly undoes the entire point of a team day. Rideshares work until you need six of them at once, which in Newstead on a Friday afternoon is exactly when they stop working. And somebody always ends up as the designated driver, which is a rough reward for the person who organised it.

One vehicle from the office solves all of it: everyone travels together, the conversation carries between venues instead of restarting, and the ride home is already waiting. Our Brisbane bus hire and charter runs from Mercedes minibuses up to 61-seat coaches, so a team of eleven and a company of sixty are both a single booking, with indicative pricing published up front and a real quote on request. If the day crosses regions, Queensland bus hire and charter covers the wider runs.

Beyond Brisbane

Landed here for a different city? Everything above applies with the venues swapped. We run the same day out of Sydney, and the team building activities in Sydney guide is the fuller version with more options in it. For the Gold Coast and Byron, the brewery pages linked above are the place to start, and if the timing is end-of-year rather than mid-year, our Gold Coast and Brisbane work Christmas party ideas covers the December version of the same problem.

Brisbane team building FAQs

How long should a team building day in Brisbane be?

Two activities across roughly five to six hours is the shape that works, typically a late-morning start and a mid-to-late afternoon finish. Shorter feels like a long lunch. Longer and attendance drops off before the end, which undermines the whole thing.

What group size do these activities suit?

Most Brisbane venues on this list handle small teams up to around thirty comfortably. Past that, the constraint is usually the activity venue rather than the transport, since our Brisbane fleet runs up to 61-seat coaches. For larger groups it is worth confirming venue capacity before locking the date.

How much does a Brisbane team building day cost?

Activity venues price their own sessions per head and quote directly. For the transport side, indicative pricing is published on our Brisbane bus hire and Brisbane brewery tours pages, with the real figure confirmed on a quote once the date, headcount and hours are known.

Do you book the activities as well as the bus?

We run the transport and the brewery tours ourselves. Third-party venues like Topgolf, lawn bowls clubs and axe throwing centres are booked directly by you, which usually gets you a better rate and keeps the change process simple. Tell us the run sheet and we build the day around it.

When should we book?

For a normal mid-year team day, a few weeks is usually enough. For anything in November or December, book much earlier: that is peak season across every venue and every operator in Brisbane, and the good Fridays go first.

What if it rains?

Topgolf, axe throwing and the breweries are all under cover, so only lawn bowls is genuinely weather-dependent. If your day is built around bowls, ask the club about their wet-weather policy at booking rather than on the morning.

Can you pick up from our office?

Yes, and it is the version that works best. Door-to-door from the office means the whole group leaves together and arrives together, which is the difference between a team day and a group of people separately attending the same event.

Got the activities picked and just need the day to run? Tell us the run sheet and we will build it around you, or start with a Brisbane brewery tour if you would rather we handled the whole thing.

Located just a short drive from Sydney, and home to our favourite wine tours, is the perfect destination whether you're a seasoned cheese aficionado or just a casual cheese lover, there's something for everyone in the Cheese Tasting Hunter Valley scene.

Where to Go for Cheese Tasting in Hunter Valley?

If you're eager to try some fantastic cheeses, you're in luck! There are many great cheese artisans in the Hunter region, but here are a few of our favourites.

A Classic Cheese Tasting Room: Hunter Valley Cheese Factory

The Hunter Valley Cheese Factory is one of the oldest and most well-known cheese producers in the area. Located in the heart of the Hunter Valley, Pokolbin, their range of cheeses is impressive, from classic cheddars to creamy bries, and everything in between. You can stop by their tasting room for wine pairings and cheese platters. Their location also makes them perfect to visit some close-by located wineries.

A Lesser Known Cheese Artisan: Binnorie Dairy

Binnorie Dairy is a great spot for artisanal cheeses and is a bit more off the beaten track if you’re looking for a smaller cheese artisan. They use traditional methods to create a stunning range of handmade soft cheeses, including delicious labne, marinated feta, triple cream brie, various goats cheeses -swoon-, and much more! Their tasting room also offers wine pairings and cheese platters.

The Popular Kid in Town: Smelly Cheese Shop

The Smelly Cheese Shop is a cheese retailer with two locations in Hunter Valley, and a popular stop amongst for many wine tour operators. They offer a wide variety of cheeses from all over the world, wine pairings, and cheese platters. They also offer cheese appreciation classes and workshops if you're looking to improve your cheese game.

The Smart Way: Join On Of Our Hunter Valley Wine Tours

We may be biased, but we love all the cheese artisans that we feature on our Hunter Valley Wine Tours! We love including the abundant local cheese and picnic platters to spoil our clients on each tour. This means that you’ll get a chance to taste a variety of artisan cheeses in one visit while enjoying the stunning views we like to pick out. Book your wine tour now and ensure an insanely good-looking cheese platter!

Creating the Perfect Cheese and Wine Pairing

Pairing cheese with wine can be a bit tricky, but it's definitely worth the effort. Here are some tips to help you create the perfect cheese and wine pairing:

Match Intensity in Your Wine and Cheese

When it comes to cheese and wine pairing, you want to match the intensity of the cheese with the intensity of the wine. Strong, bold cheeses like blue cheese or aged cheddar pair well with full-bodied red wines, while lighter, milder cheeses like brie or goat cheese pair well with lighter white wines. If you want to really step it up, start with milder cheeses accompanied by your favourite white wines, and move your way up to bolder flavours, both in wine and in cheese!

Consider Complementarity

Another approach to cheese and wine pairing is to think about complementarity. This means pairing flavors that complement each other, like pairing a creamy brie with a crisp, acidic white wine. The idea is to create a harmonious balance between the cheese and wine flavors.

Try Regional Pairings

If you're feeling adventurous, why not try pairing local cheeses with local wines? This is a great way to get a taste of the Hunter Valley's unique terroir. For example, you could pair a Hunter Valley cheddar with a Hunter Valley shiraz or a Hunter Valley blue cheese with a Hunter Valley semillon.

Put your Knowledge to Practise and try wine and cheese pairings

One of the most popular cheeses in the Hunter Valley is the locally made brie like the one from Binnorie Dairy or one of the many other locally-made bries in the region. This soft, creamy cheese pairs perfectly with a crisp, acidic white wine, such as the Semillon, a grape variety the Hunter Valley is famous for! The fresh citrus notes of the Semillon bring out the buttery, nuttiness of the brie, creating a great balance in flavours.

Another local cheese you should try is the Hunter Valley cheddar, like for example from Hunter Belle Cheese, located in Muswellbrook. This hard, crumbly cheese pairs well with a full-bodied red wine like Shiraz, like the one from Brokenwood Wines. The bold, fruity notes of the Shiraz complement the nutty, sharpness of the cheddar, creating a rich combination.

For a more adventurous pairing, try a local blue cheese like the Blue Moon from the Hunter Valley Smelly Cheese Shop. This bold, creamy cheese is perfect with a sweet dessert wine like a Late Harvest Semillon, like the De Iuliis Late Picked Semillon 2021. The sweetness of the wine cuts through the tangy, sharpness of the cheese, creating a truly unique and satisfying experience.

Take Home a Taste of Hunter Valley

Don't forget to bring some local cheeses and wines home with you to impress your friends at your next dinner party or simply to enjoy after a long day in the office! It's a great way to share your Hunter Valley experience with friends and family, and it makes for a fantastic gourmet gift idea. Most of the cheesemakers in the region offer cheese and wine for sale, so stock up on your favourites before you head home!

Chocolate and Olive Tastings

Of course, the Hunter Valley is not just about cheese or wine. The region is also famous for its local chocolate and olive tastings, so you can savour the region's flavours to the fullest. If you want to add a chocolate or olive tasting to your tour experience, simply head to our booking page or contact our team!

Pop into Featherdale Wildlife Park on a Blue Mountains Private Tour

While the Blue Mountains are still home to wild endangered koalas, sadly their numbers have dwindled significantly due to various reasons, including development of the region and the deadly bushfires of 2019. That makes the chances of seeing one in the wild are very small. If seeing a koala is something that is very high up on your to-do list, consider including Featherdale Wildlife Park on your tour. The park is a great destination to see Australian wildlife up close and personal in a way that makes sure the animals are kept safe. You can take a selfie with a Quokka (endemic to Western Australia), help feed the koalas or their wallabies! Who could resist all this cuteness?

3. How the weather can affect your Blue Mountains Private Tour?

The weather in the Blue Mountains can be very different than the weather at the beaches in Sydney. It’s always worth keeping an eye on the weather when traveling to the Blue Mountains. When it’s sunny in Sydney, it could be raining in the mountains and the other way around. Other than being a bit wetter than Sydney, don’t let the weather deter you from a day trip to the Blue Mountains. Even if it’s wet weather, the Blue Mountains are so worth the visit! Make sure that you pack an extra layer, as the mountains tend to be a few degrees colder than the coastal areas, and you’re good to go! Check in with your private tour guide and they will be able to help you pack for your day out!

4. Include some Adventure in Your Blue Mountains Private Tour with Canyoning!

Amongst the Blue Mountains locals and Sydney-siders, there are many who spend their weekends exploring the Blue Mountains rivers and canyons! Within our team of tour guides, there are also many lovers of this adventurous sport. In our humble opinion, canyoning is one of the best experiences you can have on any blue mountains tour. It encompasses all the best parts of adventuring: exploring new places, being physically challenged, sliding on natural waterslides, jumping off cliffs and swimming through the fresh mountain water. It’s a pretty epic experience and one that we love to include on our Blue Mountains Private Tours!
